Rainforest Adventures Makes EARTH University’s Carbon Neutral Honor Roll
Rainforest Adventures Costa Rica Atlantic park is officially certified as carbon neutral by EARTH University
May 14, 2012, Miami, Florida – Rainforest Adventures, a company with six ecotourism parks located in Central America and the Caribbean, stepped into new, greener territory this week after EARTH University officially certified its Costa Rican Atlantic location as carbon neutral.
After a lengthy, two-year process, Rainforest Adventures Costa Rica Atlantic earned the prestigious carbon neutral status (and, in the process, became the country’s first tour operation to receive a carbon neutral title). Having spent more than two decades measuring and offsetting greenhouse gases, EARTH University is both Costa Rica’s first carbon neutral campus and the country’s first carbon neutral certifying body.
“This designation indicates we’ve reached a major milestone on our 18-year journey to complete sustainability,” said Annika Bratt, vice president of sales for Rainforest Adventures. “Rainforest Adventures is one of the true pioneers of the green movement: protecting our sensitive ecosystems in all we do and inspiring new generations of rainforest ambassadors. Just a few months ago, our Costa Rica Atlantic park underwent verification by Rainforest Alliance and earned the highest rating available – you could say 2012 has been quite the year.”
With six parks located in St. Lucia, Dominica, Jamaica, Panama and Costa Rica (both Pacific and Atlantic), Rainforest Adventures was one of the world’s first ecotourism operators. Today, after 18 years of continued success, the parks offer explorers of all ages adrenaline-inducing activities (such as jungle ziplines and aerial tram adventures); themed, naturalist-led tours (such as bird watching and family-oriented); and the chance to check out educational and wildlife exhibitions (such as the butterfly and frog garden or the Serpentarium, a snake display) – all in safe, fun and bio-diverse environment.
In addition to earning the carbon neutral designation, the Costa Rica Atlantic park has earned an Ecological Flag, a Blue Flag and Certification for Sustainable Tourism.
