Rainforest Adventures by Panama Excursions
DAY 1 - Arrival at Panama City
Upon arrival to Panama’ Tocumen International Airport, you will be met by a PANAMA EXCURSIONS, S.A. REPRESENTATIVE, who will escort you to your pre-arranged transportation to transfer you to your chosen hotel in Panama City. After checking in, you are free to relax as the rest of the evening is at your leisure.
DAY 2 - Ocean to Ocean by Railway, Visit to Gatun Locks & Eco Cruise on Gatun Lake
Having completed a major reconstruction of the rail lines, The Panama Rail Company is again carrying passengers. The rail cars are richly adorned, bringing back the elegance of railway travel that once was. Your journey will begin in Balboa on the Pacific coast, running northwest toward Cristobal on the Atlantic side.
The train hugs the canal for most of the journey and even crosses sections of the Gatun Lake, by way of small islands and trestle bridges and you will enjoy fantastic views of the busy Panama Canal. Continuing towards Cristobal, you will find yourself in the middle of deep tropical jungle that is now the Gatun Lake. This is an exceptional opportunity to take a trip that will provide a lifetime of memories.
DAY 3 - Panama Canal Full Transit
Take a cruise on the Panama Canal, one of the most remarkable achievements of the 20th century. Transfer by bus to Gamboa and embark on your cruise. Connecting the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, the canal is among the largest and most difficult engineering projects ever undertaken. Take in Panama's beautiful scenery as you cross the Miraflores and Pedro Miguel Locks in this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. A light lunch will be served on-board.
DAY 4 - The Shaping of Panama & Miraflores Locks
The day begins with a visit to the Miraflores Locks, the first set of locks located on the Pacific entrance to the Panama Canal. Here you have the opportunity to view the lock in operation and watch in amazement as over 20 million gallons of water are transferred in less than 10 minutes.
The route will take you past the former Panama Canal Zone where the military installations of the American administration are a gentle reminder of the strategic importance of the area. Today the former Zone is very much intact and is like a photographic image of what the days of the American Administration once were.
From here, continue to the historic center of Panama City, Casco Viejo, the location to which the settlement was moved after the destruction of the original location. In 2003, Casco Antiguo was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site and with its mix of architectural styles, including Caribbean, Republican, Art Deco, French, and Colonial, this area has become the second most popular destination in Panama. Take in the atmosphere of this important section of Panama City which houses the majority of the city's monuments such as the Catedral Metropolitana and the National Theater before your tour takes you to Modern Panama, where skyscrapers dominate the skyline.
DAY 5 - Authentic Ember Indian Village
This tour was designed for you to step aboard a time machine and travel back more than 600 years; to a Central America only few have had the privilege of experiencing. More than a tour, this is a journey into the lives of the Emberá Indian Tribe. A proud people, who have been able to maintain their traditions and lifestyle as it was before the Spaniards colonized the region. In the Village, the Chief will welcome you with traditional Emberá hospitality. A series of dances have been arranged to add to this cultural exchange. Feel free to wonder the village, ask questions or interact with these quiet people. Please remember that we are guests in their home and a good measure of common sense and sensitivity towards their privacy is appreciated.
DAY 6 - Departure
PANAMA EXCURSIONS, S.A. REPRESENTATIVE will assist you with your transfer to the airport for your homeward-bound flight and wishes you a pleasant return flight home.
