New Year's Day (January 1^st)

New Year is celebrated with a big dance in San Jose’s Parque Central

St. Joseph’s Day (March 19^th)

Celebrated in the province of San Jose, the celebration of the St. Joseph's Day, patron saint of San Jose and San Jose Province is filled with cultural activities at the main urban parks of the Capital.

Holy Week (Easter)

Dates for the Holy Thursday and Friday National Holiday vary annually but businesses will often close from Wednesday until the next Monday. Catholic processions are held at the head of each province.

Juan Santamaria Day (April 11^th)

This is a public holiday to commemorate the national hero who fought at the battle of Rivas against the American invader William Walker in 1956.

Labor Day (May 1^st)

This national holiday comes with the manifestations of the major organized groups of workers in Costa Rica.

America Tropical Fair (May 22^nd - 23^rd)

This fair at the EARTH University Guacimo Campus in Limon, famous for banana farming and sustainable products, features cultural, educational, recreational and sports activities.

Corpus Christi (June 4^th)

This Catholic religious celebration is held in Pacayas, Cartago.

Chicken Creole Fair (June 18^th, 19^th, and 20^th)

Being celebrated in El Silencio at Quepos, it features the activity which seeks the recovery of traditions around the raising and production of this kind of chicken in the country.

Guanacaste Day (July 25^th)

This is a holiday celebrated in the Guanacaste Province to mark the annexation of Guanacaste from Nicaragua in 1824.

Virgin de Los Angeles Day (August 2^nd)

This is a national holiday to commemorate the Patron Saint of Costa Rica.

Mother's Day (August 15^th)

This is a special national holiday to give honor to all the mothers in Costa Rica.

Independence Day (September 15^th)

Costa Rica celebrates Independence Day with patriotic parades in every province.

Columbus Day (October 12^th)

This national holiday will hold a celebration at the Limon Province, marked by Carnival.

Christmas Day (December 25^th)

The celebration for the birth of Jesus Christ.
